Mixed media art: Coronation by artist Nkolika Anyabolu (MD)

Coronation

16" x 20"

Framed

Acrylic, Cowries and Synthetic horse hair on canvas

$500

Cowry shells were the most popular currency within Africa for a long time before the arrival of the Europeans. Now it is used a lot as jewelery, as decoration on clothing, for decorating drums and for playing games. I decided to use them in this work because I wanted to depict a traditional African art. Synthetic horse tails are used commonly by traditional dancers. Click here to see this artwork in its frame and some close up shots.
